Rubber Stamp Project

Hi everyone, it's been awhile. You all know how life keeps you busy!
I'm unable to use the program I used to use to do my blog so I'm kind of struggling with this program or whatever it is called that I am now using. I'm still trying to figure it out so I'm never quite sure what my post will look like. Anyway, decided I would share my latest project. It has been forever since I have done anything crafty. If you are like me, you just have to wait until the mood strikes.

Brought out the rubber stamps. Always have to try something new.

Mason Jar Tissue Holder

I thought I would share a DIY project I did back before Christmas. I was inspired on Pinterest. I never attempted to paint a mason jar before but it actually turned out pretty good.  I purchased the jar and chalk paint from the craft department in Walmart. Found the flowers at Hobby Lobby. I had the twine, glue gun, little chalkboard hanger and chalk pen.

First thing I did was take a paper towel and rubbed rubbing alcohol over the jar to clean it before I applied the paint.

I then applied this chalk paint with one of those cheap sponge brushes. I applied 3 layers, letting the layers dry between coats. Also discovered it was best to put thin layers on. Even if you don’t get a good coverage at first, you will by the end of the 3rd coat.

It goes on streaky but don’t worry about it. It will look good when you are done. Just watch for paint runs, you don’t want that.

After the final coat, I let it dry a good 24 hours or more. I then sanded it (where I desired) with some sand paper squares I purchased at the Dollar Tree. Next I brushed on a layer of Mod Podge to seal it. I wasn’t sure what to use to seal it but I really loved how the Mod Podge worked. It gave it a really smooth finish.

Jasper always has to inspect my projects.

You can purchase tissues in a cylinder container at Target like I did here. I just popped the plastic lid off (save it), and removed the rolled tissues from the container and placed them in the jar. You could also use tissue from a box. Just take them out and roll them up.

Once you drop the tissues down in the jar, you place the plastic kleenex top you removed earlier and then screw the lid on. You don’t need the removeable lid part of the jar, just the ring that screws on.   I wrapped some twine around the top and tied it. You can make a bow or hot glue a flower or some kind of accessory like I did.

I’m not the best at explaining myself so hopefully you can figure it out. There are lots of youtube videos out there to watch that can help you along.

I made white and blue ones.

You can leave it plain like the one above or I happened to have the little chalkboards in my stash, so I used a chalk paint pen and wrote Bless you. Some people use decals, the ideas are endless.

They make great gifts! Hope you enjoyed this little project.

No To The Snow!

I’m throwing a temper tantrum over here and it’s not pretty! The snow seriously needs to go away. We need lots of sun, green grass, pretty flowers and everything else that Spring brings.

All I can do for now is place a little Spring around the house.

Picked up this sweet little light at Ray’s Shabby Cottage Furniture in Shenandoah, Iowa.

The photograph is a picture of my great grandpa who owned a tire shop here in town back in the day. He’s the one on the right. Sure wish you could go back in time on a visit.

Time Flies

Time flies and yet this winter with all the snow we have had, the days seem long.

Jasper has a pretty good view to check the progress of snow removal!

Meanwhile, on the inside, I’m trying to think Spring.

Jasper decided it was a good day for a nap.

I have to share a couple of cute pictures.  One day I had to (notice I said had to) run into Hobby Lobby and I had Ash with me. He just doesn’t find it as exciting as I do!

Then one day when Ash was here to visit, Jasper wasn’t sure why he was allowed to sit in his chair!
