Mock Mushrooms

Doug went mushroom hunting again and once again, only found 5, but we had a friend take pity on us and gave us a few that he found!

Some people said they are afraid to eat these mushrooms for various reasons. Well here is a recipe that my Mom came across that I thought would be interesting to try. I would like to see if they really tasted like the real thing. Maybe you have seen this recipe, I never have so I thought I would share it with you.

1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can mushroom bits and pieces (drained)
1 egg, beaten
Cracker crumbs
Mix together adding enough cracker crumbs to make a mixture like a salmon patty mixture. Form in small patties. Fry in butter until brown. Tastes like fried mushrooms.

If someone tries this, be sure to let me know what you thought. I’ll try it eventually but right now I have the real thing!

  1. It sure sounds yummy, I will have to try this, thanks for sharing!! Lecia

  2. Congratulations on being in the Mercantile Gatherings magazine, what an honor. I will have to look to see if I have that issue. Maybe you could post some pictures. Lecia

  3. Mindy~ sorry going to pass on the recipe~ I want the real thing~ Yum they look so good!!!
    Eatem up!!!

  4. Hunting these is a big thing where I come from. I have many fond memories of hunting them with my Pap. After he died I ask for the old mushroom bag. He always called it the ole poke. He would always tell me to go get the ole poke when it was time to hunt. The ole poke was not found but I hold the memories in my heart. Yes send me a picture of the pond. Thanks & Blessings!

  5. In total desperation, we tried this one year and believe you me, it is NO substitute for the real thing. Here in Iowa, we dip in egg and roll in cracker crumbs, fry in butter. you can't replicate the honest, natural muskiness of a morel. Now, I'm salivating and ready to roll someone for their mushrooms!

  6. Hi Mindy, those mushrooms look yummy! That's one thing I have never done, mushroom hunting...

    Blessings, Traci

  7. You have a good friend there-better hang on to him! It's been too cold here for morels, but we keep checking... and hoping. Traditionally we hunt on Mother's Day with extended family. It's always a challenge to sneak off to our secret honey spot in the woods when no one's watching. LOL
We like ours rolled in cracker crumbs and fried in butter. :)
    Happy Hunting!
