Log Home Progress

Well, if you know me at all, you know I lack in the patience department. All I could think about was decorating my little house. It doesn’t matter if the structure part is done or the outside finishing touches, I just can’t wait to get in there and start decorating. First thing I did was lay my wood flooring. This was not as easy as I thought it would be. I first used wood glue and my planks kept popping up so then I switched to hot glue and that worked so much better other than the flippin burns you get on your fingers! I of course was in a hurry and so I went ahead and painted my logs and chinking. Didn’t know what I would have used anyway. I was a little leery after the floor bit. I had this little pie safe that I painted and grunged up. I cut some pieces off a old quilt for my curtains and hung a little quilt on my pie safe door. This area will be my kitchen. I have to get a little table yet and of course my appliances. Don’t know if I will try and make them or not.

This side of the room will be my little cozy living space. I immediately had to get a Maggie inspired quilt (which I made promptly) upon my wall. I also made a little wool runner for my bench. Right now I have some dried flowers hanging but I plan on building a fireplace to go on this wall. I have to check with my contractor first! Now remember my window framing and other finishing touches aren’t done yet!

I still have to work on the outside of my house and of course finish the inside but like I said, I just had to do a little instant decorating. I couldn’t stand it any longer.

Now don’t forget, I’ll be inviting you over when it’s all done. I better go get me a front door made before someone tries to break in and steal my quilt!

Rusty and the boys just shake their heads and leave me alone, they know I am in my own little world, and having the best time too!

My Big Idea….

Ok I have this idea in my head that’s probably too big for me to make it come to pass but I’m going to give it a try. I have had this house for quite some time. It was made with a back on it. This is an old picture of it. I have since painted it different. I have always wanted a flat log cabin doll house to decorate. I think it would be so much fun. I never can find any though, at least the kind I want. People always make bird houses or just a house to sit, not one you can decorate the inside. So one day I got to thinking, why can’t I take the back off of this house and try and make it into something I can decorate. I asked Rusty if he would take the back off of it and he did. He also cut out the windows.

pcpics 2668

This is what it looked like after I repainted it awhile back but I want to try and do something else to it so it looks like it has real logs and chinking on it.

pcpics 2670

Here is the back side. I want to put logs in the inside too. I want to put flat logs not round logs on it. I also want to put a wood plank floor in it. I hope I can make my idea a reality!  I will keep you up to date on my progress and when I get all done I will invite you over and we can go inside and have a cup of coffee!

Book of Days, the beginning

pcpics 2665

I’ve just started working on my Book of Days from Maggies new book. I know I know, it is so impressive what I’ve done so far. I have got my black pages cut to the right size. Isn’t that great!? lolpcpics 2660

I also have a few scrapbook papers picked out to use.

pcpics 2661

I’m kind of dragging my feet for the next step. I haven’t bound a book before so I’m a little intimidated! Maybe I will work some more on it this weekend.

It certainly will be “A Book of Days” as it will probably take me quite a few days to complete it!

God Box part 2

This was the book I was reading where I got my idea for the “God Box.” It is a very good book. I checked it out at my local library.

But you know what? Ever since I finished making my “God Box” I have been thinking that just maybe I needed to make it a wee bit bigger to fit all of my problems and requests! Maybe something more like this!

Of course I would still decorate it and make it look nice!

It’s just that there are some days I know I will be using a lot of paper!

God Box

I got this idea from a book I just finished reading. In the book this gal was showing her friend her “God Box” that she had made. She said whenever something was weighing heavily on her mind or she had a prayer request she would write it down on a piece of paper and give it to God by putting it in the box.  I really liked the idea so I decided to make myself one. I got a paper mache box from Hobby Lobby with the idea of covering it in material, which by the way, I had never done before. I was reading one of my favorite blogs, Our Pioneer Homestead, and Pamela had just made a tutorial on how to do this. Thanks to her I covered my box with no problems. Be sure to check out her blog! She is so talented!

So here is my own“God Box” where I plan to give all my cares and requests to Him but I also plan to give Him thanks and gratitude for the blessings He sends my way…

Trying to bring out a few spring things. Naturally this means I have to put the previous things away or find another place for them so right now I’ve got a few things piled on the floor that need to find a home. This is when I start asking myself why I started changing things around! It’s a never ending job!

This seems to be the mode I’m in right now. As you can see, Reese agrees with me. I think we are just contemplating our next move. You know it takes a lot of time and effort to plan ahead.

Wine & Roses

pcpics 2627

Look what I found when I got home from work today. Dear Hubby got me a beautiful rose and a bottle of my favorite wine. I told him not to get my anything but he obviously didn’t listen.

I had been on the look out for a good wine and I came across this wine at a craft show. They were having a wine tasting and everyone was buying the cherry cherry. I overheard people say they had had it before and they wanted some more ( hey how about the little rhyme there?!) anywho, I thought to myself I better try it and I also discovered it was pretty good! It is a sweet wine. Lo and behold I discovered it is sold right here in my hometown at Corner Cottage. It is produced and bottled by The Tabor Family Winery in Baldwin, Iowa.

Buttons and Candles

pcpics 2608

Was just trying to think of little Valentine gifts. I got the little seed holders at Wally World aka Walmart. Then thought I would tie a little button on with some little red berries. I will have to stress that they put the little candle in something else to burn it or the little holder will quickly go up in flames!! That would not be a good situation!

pcpics 2611

Just wrapped some hemp and buttons around my flicker light. Easily removable after Valentines Day!

Thrift Finds

Saturday Rusty and I had to run over to the city and do some errands. I decided to run into the thrift shop over there since I hadn’t been for a long time. I walked away with some goodies! Click pictures to enlarge.

pcpics 2594

I found this rag rug like my grandma had made many a times. I thought the candle holder was neat! The twig chairs I can use outside come Spring. The cute little rocking chair came with the little cushion but I thought I would make a neat chair pad and maybe a little penny rug to toss over the back of it! I also found some old sheet music, great for crafts! Usually I don’t find anything when I go but this time I did find a few treasures.

I hung my candle holder in the bathroom.

Don’t forget, I draw the winner of my giveaway February 10th.

New Maggie Book

Yesterday after work Joan and I made a quick trip to Roca to pick up our new Maggie books! We got to spend some time visiting with Twila at the Log Cabin which is always enjoyable and she had some new wools that we had to partake of!

pcpics 2583

Here are the yummy wool colors….

pcpics 2584

Twila had a wooden bowl filled with her heart collection. They weren’t for sale of course but she had them displayed so everyone could enjoy them. She had a lot of neat ones!

She had another bowl of hearts that were for sale. She had a couple of these that were alike and I asked her if she made them to which she replied yes, so Joan and I had her sign them for us as a keepsake to go in our own heart collections!

pcpics 2588

I need to start stitching some more on my quilt backing. I kind of took a break from that and I’m working on a journal cover. I’ll show you it when I’m done. Here is a sneak peak…
