Tasha Tudor Day
Tasha Tudor was a very inspirational woman. In honor of Tasha many of her admirers plan to spend her birthday doing something Tasha related, whether it be sipping tea, gardening, reading some of her books or doing some of her crafts. Click here to read more about Tasha.
I myself think she was totally amazing. She was so talented and capable of doing so many things. She lived a simple lifestyle and was not afraid of work. She lived in a time where she could of had so many modern conveniences yet she chose to live simply. I wonder how much better off we would be if we could only follow in her footsteps?

Weather Bulletin & Sneak Peak
I interrupt this program to let you know that cooler weather is expected in the area tomorrow! Isn’t that great news?! I know I am certainly ready for cooler weather especially after receiving my electric bill in the mail today.
Here’s a couple of sneak peaks of what I am working on now. Just about to get it finished.

Holy heart failure, Batman!
I went to bed just like any other night, did a little reading and then fell asleep. Next thing I know Doug is waking me up saying,“Mom, there is a bird or a bat in the house!” and of course I said, “What? For real?” He said “yes” so I told him to go wake up Dad (who fell asleep on the couch) so he goes and tells Rusty and Rusty says, “Can’t it wait until morning?” We are like, “NO!" So Doug and I shut ourselves up in the bedroom and leave Rusty out there to catch the bat. Pretty soon Rusty comes back in and said the bat flew into the pantry so he shut the door. We are all talking about what to do next and all of a sudden I see something fly through the kitchen. I start screaming and yelled, “shut the door!” Doug and I sent Rusty out again while we waited in the safety of our room!! Next we here some racket and a squeak, squeak, squeak! Rusty hit him with a tennis racket but it didn’t kill it so he managed to get a plastic cup over it and scooped it up with a plate and he took it outside and put it on the picnic table and finished him off! He thinks it was just one bat and that it escaped out from under the pantry door. I’m hopin it was just one bat cause there better not be another or I’m going to totally freak out! I have never had a bat in my house before and I better not have another one either! It was so funny hearing Doug tell how he discovered it in the first place. He said he got up and went into the kitchen and noticed the curtains moving and he thought, “why are they moving, there’s no vent over there and then all of a sudden something comes flying at him. Good thing it didn’t come flying at me cause I wouldn’t be here today to write about it!! Today I keep looking up when I go from room to room.
Here’s hoping for a bat free week!

Lazy
I need to kick myself in the behind! I started back to work this week and it always takes awhile to get back in the groove of things and I have just been super duper lazy when I get home. I just keep thinking I need to do this, I need to do that and that’s as far as I get. Rusty took today off to help Jake get moved back up to school so that’s done. Jake went over to Nebraska City last night and his car died on him on the way home, but thank goodness he was just getting on the off ramp to Hamburg. It was his alternator so we were able to get that fixed today. I tell you, if it isn’t one thing it’s another. Doug starts football so now I can start worrying about him getting hurt. I know, knock it off and think positive! This is Doug’s senior year and I just can’t believe it.
This weekend it’s supposed to be in the 90’s again, yuck! I am so ready for some cooler weather and I’m sure everyone around me is too because I seem to be a nicer person when I’m not so hot!! Once I get motivated to drag out my fall things I will take some pictures! Here is my gourd garland from last year. I just love it!

My first “Comfort Zone” project
Here is my first project out of Maggie’s new book, Comfort Zone. It is the pomegranate runner. You can click on it to make it bigger.
This leaf needle holder is the last project I finished before I went to the Maggie party. It was fun and easy to make except for the acorn. I had never made one of those before and I don’t know if I did it right or not.
I am debating on whether or not to get some of my fall decorations out. One minute I think I will and the next minute I think I just don’t know. I never was one for making decisions, even about the simplest things!!
I want to thank everyone for your comments! I love hearing from you!

Give This A Try
Last night I was sitting on my patio enjoying the cooler weather for once. It was really nice except for those darn flies. Sitting there, I remembered when I was working at a concession stand at the rodeo this year, there was as always lots of pesky flies. We had condiments sitting on a table (covered of course) but those flies loved hanging out there. Well a gal I was working with told us that she had read somewhere and maybe you have all heard of it before, I hadn’t, that to get rid of the flies, hang a bag of water. She said she hung a bag of water up in her garage to help keep the flies from bothering her dogs and that it really worked. At the rodeo there wasn’t really a place to hang a bag of water where we were at but we put one out there to see if it would help and it did cut down on the amount of flies.
She just put water in a ziplock bag. She didn’t add anything to the water. Some people had heard of adding pennies to it but she didn’t. So, it’s worth a try. I think I will make one and put it out on my patio and see what happens. I will let you know if I think it helped. I would love to hear from anyone who has tried or heard about this before!
Let the experiment begin!! lol

Maggie Party
Let me start off by saying I had a great time last night! Joan and I and Several of us wool applique/rug hooking women were invited to Twila’s to share our love of Maggie and her patterns. Some of us brought some Maggie projects that we or others had made and we had a big show and tell! Twila also shared with us some helpful tips!
In the picture below, this gal made this pattern into a valance! Isn’t that a neat idea?!
I had heard about Maggie’s Book of Days and ever since have been wanting to see one. Twila had hers on display.
Don’t you just love these little Black eyed Susans?!
I took this picture of the backs of some hooked rugs to show you how someone made really nice labels to put on her projects. We all need to do this so that in years to come people will know when and who made them. Doesn’t she do a great job?
Of course there were some yummy refreshments!!
Isn’t this just the sweetest little thing? I have this pattern but haven’t done it yet but seeing it has got me all inspired to get it done!
I was very honored to be asked by Twila a while back if I would give a demonstration on how to make these birds that are in Maggie’s second book. They are very easy to make and you could use them for many things, Christmas tree ornaments, garland, gift tags, table decorations, the ideas are endless.
And looky looky looky what she gave me for doing it…. some scrumptious beautiful wool that she dyed! How sweet is that?!!!!
Twila also showed us this wool coverlet that she had made. I didn’t get a picture of it but it is in Maggies first book. This is the quilt.
She had made it on a old white wool blanket and it was absolutely gorgeous!
It was a very enjoyable evening as is any time spent at Twila’s!
Wool Blessings,
Mindy
