Valentine Pillow

pcpics 122

Sometimes Sundays can be so boring and long. Today I made this pillow. I looked through some of my pattern books last night and found one in this book, “Pastimes” by Whimsicals. I kind of tweaked it a bit. There are a lot of other neat patterns in this book too. I still need to finish my number six Maggie quilt block, I just keep getting myself sidetracked!

Tomorrow will be February 1st. I honestly don’t know where the time goes.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Boxes, candy and stickers

pcpics 116

Rusty and I had a day away today. We ran up to Council Bluffs. We weren’t after anything special, just wanted to mess around. I stopped into Walgreens and found this heart shaped Valentine box. I liked it cause of the denim on it so I bought it for a decoration. Is it my fault it has to have Russell Stover candy inside? I thought the boys could help me with that one so I get it home and open it and I’m thinking what a rip off! Look how few pieces of candy are in it. My gosh, I remember when I used to get boxes there were all those little brown wrappers that looked like little muffin cups and they were crammed in the box side by side, no spaces what so ever. It’s just like everything else now, you pay more and you get less!

pcpics 119

Anyway, getting back to my shopping spree, I went on down the Valentine isle and found these.

pcpics 120

Some Valentines and Valentine stickers. I swear, I saw these and thought yipee I want them so I can give some to my friends! Here I am in my forties and I get excited about Snoopy Valentines and want to get them to give to my friends, is there something wrong with me?! Well if there is I’m not fixing it cause I like being a little kid, it’s so much more fun than being a grown up!! So if I approach you with a little Snoopy Valentine, just humor me and act like you’re thrilled to death, you will make my day!

Finished Runner

pcpics 104

pcpics 106

I’m finding it hard to type as my hands are aching from all that stitching but I finally got my runner done. I like how it turned out. I used a piece of material for the backing. Once again it is a Maggie pattern. You can click on the picture to make bigger.

I kind of want to do something for Valentine’s. This book has some really neat patterns in it.

pcpics 110

pcpics 115

I like both of the pillow patterns and I just love the vine garden hanging above the bed, it’s similar to the runner I just did as it also is a Maggie pattern.

Well Douglas has a game tonight so I suppose I better get going.

A little heat

This has been one of our best investments ever. This electric heater. Not only does it look like real fire, it puts out a lot of heat especially after we set it on ceramic tiles. It is Rusty’s favorite place when it is cold. He likes to sit there and watch TV for the two minutes he’s awake because as soon as he sits down there by the heat, he’s out. It does feel pretty good! It is in the kitchen.

Then in the living room we have electric logs that give off heat as well.

I enjoy them both. Makes it warm and cozy!

Cinnamon Rolls

I had to make 2 dozen cinnamon rolls for youth group. I love to use Rhodes frozen cinnamon rolls. They are so easy. You just put them in a pan, let them rise and then bake, frost and your done. I have the old fashioned steam heat radiators, so I like to set my rolls on there to rise. Anyway I think they are ever bit as good as homemade.

pcpics 092

I am still working on my bird and flowering vine runner. I can hardly squeeze my right hand into a fist but no pain no gain! It’s all about priorities!

Band Carnival Revisited

My mom found this picture that was taken one year at the Band Carnival of me and Greg. This would be something neat and easy for them to do again, to make some kind of drawing to have people’s pictures taken. I don’t think they’ve done something like this for awhile anyway. That time will be coming up again soon.

Last night I Kept waking up with my right wrist hurting. It always does that when I do a lot of sewing. It keeps going numb on me but I’m still working away on my wool projects!

I just heard the weather man say it is going to be really cold Thursday and Friday. Has this been a winter or what?

Flowering vine and vegetables

Here we are another Monday. We had a little bit of snow during the night and then blowing snow this morning so my drive to work was not a fun one. There were places where you couldn’t see because of the blowing snow but I made it.

Since I bought some more wool I started another project. It is called bird and flowering vine. It’s a…. can you guess? Yep you are correct! It’s a Maggie pattern. I got the pieces all cut and layed out, now I just have to stitch them on.

pcpics 089

The other night Rusty was chopping up a bunch of vegetables and I just had to get a picture of them. Aren’t the colors beautiful? Just goes to show you the more color in your food, the more appetizing it looks!

pcpics 074

Well after cutting out my applique pieces I have wool scraps every where. I better get it cleaned up!

Organizing and Uh Oh!

Today as I was leaving church I discovered I locked my keys in my car! Woops! It has been a long time since I’ve done that. Rusty was home as he had a lot of things to do today so he had to come over and rescue me! What a sweet sweet man, I just love him to death! He was real nice about it too (that is after he got done yelling at me) No, he was good about it! Thanks honey! :-)

When I got home I decided after I bought some wool yesterday I needed to do some organizing and cleaning up. My craft table was just getting a little out of hand! So I started sorting through everything.

pcpics 078

I got my wools separated into colors or at least the same color families. I have some in one cupboard and….pcpics 079

some in my other cupboard!

pcpics 080

Now I pretty much have everything back together I hope!

pcpics 086

At least my craft table is looking a lot better. It was getting piled mighty high! I can only stand it for so long.

pcpics 087

Here’s what I put on top of my cupboard. I figured since it was full of wool I would drag out my sheep and my “wool” sign! I see I cut the “W” in the picture off but hey, it’s pretty high up there and I couldn’t see what I was doing!!

A Wooly Day

Today Homer took Joan and I to Black Horse Antiques. We didn’t think we would be able to find it so Homer offered to take us. Is he wonderful or what?! Rusty had to work or he could have rode along. First we stopped at the Farmhouse and had breakfast. It was mighty tasty! We then made a quick stop at Country Sampler and then headed on to the Black Horse. Janice Lee is the owner and she does rug hooking so she has tons of wools. Wools are so hard to find, at least around here, so we thought we would go see what she had. She had some scrap bins which were nice because you can find a lot of small pieces you can use for applique. Here is my wool purchase for the day. I tried to think of colors that I have been lacking when working on a project.

Our last stop was at Sam’s and then we headed for home. We actually saw some sunshine as we got closer to home. After they dropped me off I quickly grabbed my camera before the sun disappeared so I could take a picture of it. I almost forgot what sunshine was like.

Does it look familiar to you? Feel free to print off the picture and hang it up!

How about a yummy treat?!

These would be an easy treat to fix for Valentines Day, Don’t they look yummy?! Check out how they made them here.

candy covered oreos 011

Or how about these pretzels found here.

These hearts are made with Twinkies. Real professional looking though don’t you think? I don’t remember where I saw them.

and of course a good ole brownie is always good! You can find them here.

Every Valentine’s Day I remember my brother and I getting a heart shaped box of candy. I always thought just the box itself was always so neat! Then one year we each got a great big cookie! I remember having our picture taken with those cookies. This picture reminded me of them.

Are you hungry yet?

Quilt, doll and a candle

When I got to thinking about Valentines and the colors pink and red, it reminded me of a quilt my Grandma Armstrong made me when I was little. I got it out and decided to display it for awhile. You can click on the pictures to make them larger.

pcpics 068

I don’t really have any Valentine decorations. I just stuck a heart in this doll’s hands and called it good! I might come up with something else before it’s all said and done. Of course I have one of my doves hanging on the cupboard.

pcpics 061

This doesn’t have anything to do with Valentines but I thought I would show you my new book light candle. I just love it! I had been looking for one for a long time and finally found one. I know, you are looking at the picture and thinking…..o…..k..? But it’s a primitive thing and I love it!

pcpics 052

I think we could all use a light of some kind in all this dreary foggy winter weather we’ve been having!

On the Wings of a snow white dove

Can you tell what I have been doing in my spare time? That’s right, the dove’s have been multiplying around here. I have made some more antiqued ones and then I left some white. I plan on taking the white ones to work to hang. I made those out of newspaper. I would have liked to have made them out of sheet music but didn’t have any on hand.

pcpics 057

pcpics 060

Now lets talk repurposing again.

All this Valentine talk brought back a childhood memory of my aunts............she said my Mom probably remembers doing this also.

My Grandpa used to wallpaper and paint for a living.............Instead of buying the expensive printed valentines, they used the big out of date wallpaper books to choose wallpaper they wanted to make a valentine from. They would cut them out into heart shapes and paste them onto paper doilies, then wrote their own little verse or saying on them. Trisha said she  loved doing that, but often wondered what the other kids thought of their homemade valentines. Well personally, I would have loved to receive them. Nothing’s better than homemade.

I found these next 3 pictures of some homemade valentines. The first one looks to be made out of wallpaper.

sweet valentine

This one below was made with ledger paper among other things.

life valentine

This one looks like it has some sheet music and a doily.

Just use your imagination! They can be made out of anything!

Old Valentines

Here is a collection of some old Valentines. My Aunt sent me these pictures. They had belonged to a very good friend of hers, Virginia Hamilton. They are fun to look at. You can click on the pictures to make them bigger.

Trisha said some of the honeycomb cards had been red but have faded to a salmon color.

The honeycomb ones are neat. I like looking at old Valentines. Seems like they always had neat sayings on them.

Quilt block 5

Ok, I have completed my 5th quilt block today. Yesterday we had our Maggie class and we went ahead and got our next 2 blocks ready to go because we didn’t know if the weather would cooperate this week for our regular scheduled class. Here is my finished block.

pcpics 054

I will show you block six as soon as I get it done.

It has been so foggy lately, first it’s snow everyday and now it’s fog. Will someone make the sun come out please! I suppose it will be foggy for my drive to work tomorrow. : –(

This picture was on the front of the Iowa Country Register. I thought it was really cute. It would be fun to make either a quilt or wall hanging like it. It is the Lang Company featured artist, Paula Joerling’s hand stitched vintage fabrics art. I especially like the saying!

Now I need to go sew a hole in Rusty’s work jacket. It will not be as fun as stitching on my quilt block, but you got to do what you got to do!!

Do you remember?

Do you remember making Valentine boxes in school? I always liked making those. I wonder if they even do that anymore? I remember using old shoe boxes.

We would take our valentines to school and put one in everybody’s box. Then I would bring my box home and lay out all my cards and look at each one over and over.

I would even have fun doing that again today and I would probably do the same thing, lay them all out and look at them one by one, over and over. Honestly, I think there is a part of me that will never grow up!!
