Happy New Year!

newyear40

Here we are facing another new year! Let’s hope we can look forward to a better year, to enjoy good health, taking nothing for granted, keeping a positive outlook on life, love and family, and to always remember to live in the “now." I’m am certainly going to try and enforce the following message to myself daily!

********
"Surrender your expectations. Instead of setting yourself up for disappointment, decide to do things differently this year. When you notice yourself projecting into the future, worrying about the past or listening to your negative internal chatter, use a simple statement like 'be here now' to remind you to return your thoughts to the most useful place of all—the present!"

Winter Boredom

Here is my angelic little dog. He has been doing a lot of this lately cause there isn’t much else to do! I know some of you are laughing at the word “angelic” but you have to admit he looks pretty sweet and innocent laying there all covered up with his head on the pillow!

No sunshine, just gloomy snow everywhere you look. Here is the view from my couch. Not much happening out there in the world.

pics 190580

I did manage to throw together a snowman centerpiece for my dining room table and hang a different quilt up for a change. This is an old quilt that I got from my Grandma Armstrong.

I probably should be doing some deep cleaning projects but that just doesn’t sound like fun to me. I promise I’ll get to it later, well maybe, ok so maybe I shouldn’t make any promises right now! What are you doing by the way? Anything domestic?  :-)

Big date and a project

Ever since it snowed we have pretty much been at home. Rusty had some days off around Christmas but he is back to work now. Today we made a date for when he got home from work. Do you want to know where we went on our date? Can you stand the excitement once you are told? Ok, here it is……….we went to…………are you ready……………

walmart-logo

Yes, we went to Walmart! We were in need of some groceries and a few other essentials. It was fun though I must say, just to get out of the house and go somewhere together.

I have been working on another Maggie project since I’ve been cooped up. I finished it today. It is called an Antique Vine Runner. The pattern is in Maggie’s book, “With these Hands”.

Birds in the snow

My very talented cousin Scott Holmes took these pictures. I thought the birds were so pretty against the snow. Scott also is an artist. He does computer graphics among many other things. He has a website you can check out by clicking here.

I thought this red one was especially pretty!

Isn’t he cute?

It’s when you look at pictures like these and see the beautiful colors and details that you just have to know that only God could create something so beautiful.

Thanks Scott for sharing your pictures!

Day after Christmas

Tis the day after Christmas and most of the day I took down decorations and put them away!

Right after Christmas I take down everything because when it’s over it’s over. I brought down a couple of snowmen which you see above in my header. I am thinking about making a bunch of snowmen in my yard, I certainly have enough snow. I found this picture and it pretty much shows how much snow I feel like there is out there.

Here are some cute snowmen I found while looking around the web.

Snowman Soup!

1 package hot chocolate mix
3 Hershey Kisses
10 mini-marshmallows
1 candy cane

Place in a small ziplock bag or in a new mug.
Attach this poem:

"Was told you've been real good this year
Always glad to hear it
With freezing weather drawing near
You'll need to warm the spirit
So here's a little Snowman Soup
Complete with stirring stick
Just add hot water, sip it slow
It's sure to do the trick!"

Christmas Eve

SantaAndRudolph

Hope Rudolph’s nose is shining bright tonight!

Here is the weather in our area:

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning in effect until 6 a.m Saturday. Weather Service officials say storm total accumulations could reach 6 to 16 inches. Falling and blowing snow with strong winds and poor visibilities are likely. This will lead to whiteout conditions, making travel extremely dangerous. Do not travel. If you must travel, have a winter survival kit with you. If you get stranded, stay with your vehicle.

If we could look out our window right now, this is probably an image we would see.

I’ve managed to work on some of my projects today. Here is a snowman. He will be made into a pillow.

I also finished my 4th Maggie quilt block. I like this one, it was fun to do!

Christmas Questions

I have seen this questions on some other blogs, I thought it was kind of interesting so here are my answers.

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?

It depends on the gift you are giving.

2. Real tree or Artificial?

I have always had a artificial tree.

3. When do you put up the tree?

I like to put it up Thanksgiving night. I want to start enjoying it as soon as I can because the season goes so fast!

4. When do you take the tree down?

Christmas night or the day after. When it’s over it’s not pretty anymore. It just loses that magic I guess!

5. Do you like eggnog?  No, I don’t think I have ever tried it but it doesn’t even sound good to me.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? This is a hard one. I just enjoyed waking up and seeing all the presents Santa left. I especially remember a big doll that was as tall as I was and a little piano!

7. Hardest person to buy for? I think most men are hard to buy for.

8. Easiest person to buy for? Well of course I always know what I want! lol, but women gifts are fairly easy I think.

9. Do You have a nativity scene? Yes I do. I bought me a nice big one that I really like. I will add a photo at the bottom of this post

10.Mail or email Christmas cards? Well, it is always fun to get them in the mail I think but with postage and everything email ones are good too!

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? Don’t believe I ever received a bad Christmas gift. Any gift given from the heart is a super gift!

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Don’t really think I have one at this point and time anyway.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Whenever the mood strikes me.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Don’t believe so. I have recycled the wrapping though!

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Anything, love it all! I like cranberry salad real well.

16. Lights on the tree? I usually put all clear lights on my tree.

17.Travel at Christmas or stay home?  Stay home or at least don’t travel very far.

18. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? We have always opened them Christmas morning.

Here is my Nativity Scene…

Mercantile Gatherings Magazine

Back in 2004, our home was featured in the very first edition of the Mercantile Gatherings magazine. There have been many changes in how things look now compared to when they were in this magazine. Naturally I like my house better now than in 2004. I just thought it was neat to be in a magazine! To find out more about this magazine click here.

When Rusty and I went shopping last week, we were at Menards and they had all their Christmas 38% off. I found this Charlie Brown Christmas globe. It is not glass, it’s plastic and when you push the button snow flies around and it plays music. I’m like a little kid, I just keep pushing the button, listening to the music and watching it snow!

pics 190532

Today was our last day of school at FM until January. We added some Christmas lights to our Charlie Brown wall.

I have been working on some projects lately. First of all I have been working on some little stockings for my Christmas table setting to hold silverware. Joan and I found this pattern when we were out and about one day. We used different material and Joan made the design that goes on the front. I just have to put my star on the trees and have someone (aka Joan) sew them together for me. I don’t know if I will get them done for this year or not, we shall see.

pics 190527

Another thing I did was make some Homemade sugar scrub. I found the recipe on line somewhere. I haven’t tried any myself, maybe I should do that before I pawn it off on someone, you think!! It smells really good though!
