Last night Joan and I went over to Twila’s at the Log Cabin. She was having a showing of a wool applique quilt done by Maggie Bonanomi. For those of you who don’t know, Maggie designs her own line of patterns for wool and other fabrics called A Design from the Butternut House. She also creates designs for rug hooking. She has a studio and shop, Simply Butternut, in a old 1830’s log house in Lexington, Missouri. She has also designed for other companies. Joan and I had the pleasure of meeting Maggie awhile back at Twila’s. She did a book signing and had some of her designs there for display. Here is the quilt that was there on display last night. Pictures don’t do it justice. You need to see it in person. It is absolutely beautiful!
Here are some pictures I took with my camera.
Like I said, the pictures just don’t do it justice. You can’t really see the true colors in it, because the true colors are beautiful!. Now, here’s the deal. Quilting is something I never got into learning. I have some beautiful family quilts and I treasure those. They are definitely heirlooms. Wool applique is something I can do and love doing and this is as close to making a quilt as I’ll probably ever do. So I am going to take on this project. Twila is offering this as a block a month club. There are 9 blocks total and then the top and bottom is considered the 10th. I figured if I am ever going to do something like this, now is the time as I will be able to have help with it as Twila is going to have the monthly classes. I won’t be able to make but probably 2 class as they are in Lincoln but I know I will be able to receive help should I need it. The only parts that I figure I will need help with is putting it together and putting the backing on it. Joan said she could help me too. Thanks Joan!! Anyway when I get this finished I will have a beautiful wool appliqued quilt that I know I will certainly cherish and be most proud of!
Isn’t this bedroom to die for?!
These pictures are taken from Maggie’s book, “With these hands”
She also made the wool applique quilt cover on her bed. I could do that with mine or hang it on the wall. These pictures are my inspiration for the bedroom I want to have someday. Just absolutely love it!!
